Important Guidelines Issued on Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death
The Pregnancy Loss and Infant Death Alliance (PLIDA) has just issued three important documents on a very difficult topic. The cornerstone of the statements are that parents have the right to decide how much time, if any they may spend with their baby after he or she dies. They also have the right to decide whether or not they want to hold the child, regardless of the circumstances. The parents have the right to choose, regardless of the gestational age, too. PLIDA stresses the importance of having an empathetic and caring environment. It is an important time for families to receive support.
Sharing this information with nurses, doctors, and other professionals is important. These families have such a short time with their child, that it is important that they feel supported. The documents are attached as PDFs:

Thank you from PLIDA’s Board of Directors to the Children’s Room for posting these important documents. PLIDA encourages all of you to print, copy, post, and distribute these documents. Our intent is to support health care practitioners in providing comprehensive and compassionate care to grieving families; to inform administrations about the kinds of care (and policies) that should be in place; to offer staff supervisors a way to support & educate their bereavement caregivers; and to create documents that bolster awareness and that advocates can use to improve care. Please check http://www.plida.org for other position statements.
We’d love to hear back from any of you as to how you end up using them and to what effect.
Thanks for all you do for bereaved parents and those who provide care to them.
