Education & Consultations

As the leading nonprofit in Massachusetts serving grieving children, teens, and families, our staff provides workshops, trainings, consultations, and crisis response. We educate the community about issues related to grief and loss, using the expertise we’ve developed through working with hundreds of grieving children, teens, and adults.

Learning How To Help
We know that grief and loss can be difficult topics to address. We provide you with practical information and strategies that will help as you experience any stressful life event, including moving, divorce, illness, death, or any other loss.

We offer services that are proactive as well as responsive to crisis situations in your school or community.

In-Service Training
On-site training sessions are customized to meet your needs. Training is priced by the hour with a two-hour minimum, plus travel expenses. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategies for Supporting Grieving Children & Teens
  • Helping Your School Community Respond to Loss
  • Creating a Crisis Plan
  • Coping with Death & Other Stressful Life Events

Family Consultations
We can work with your organization’s staff to help you support a particular family or child, or we can work directly with the individuals who are in need of support. There are typically 1-3 sessions in which we provide psycho-education and strategies for coping with a loss. Consultations are very personal, and we respond to the specific needs of each situation. These sessions are designed to support individuals and families impacted by death, life-threatening illness, or any other loss.

Crisis Response
When your community is dealing with an unplanned death or other traumatic loss, The Children’s Room is there for you. We also provide language and strategies that can be used to communicate about death and grief, and activities that help strengthen coping skills. We can help create a crisis plan and provide your school community with an understanding of the grieving process at all ages.
