We are so excited for the 126th Boston Marathon!

Thanks to the generosity of the John Hancock Non-Profit Boston Marathon® Program, The Children’s Room has six bibs for the Boston Marathon on April 18, 2022. We are thrilled to introduce our 2022 Miles & Memory Marathon Team.  Read their stories below and offer your support.  By helping our runners reach their fundraising goals, you provide support to families facing the death of a parent or child.

The Children’s Room creates safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. We believe that grief is a natural and healthy response to death. Everyone experiences grief in a unique way, and being with others who have experienced a death reduces isolation and provides hope. Our services are offered to our grieving families free of charge, which means we rely on generous donations to keep our programs funded.

Thank you for supporting our 2022 Miles & Memories Marathon Team as they prepare to run 26.2 miles for grieving children, teens, and families.

If you prefer to make an offline donation, checks can be mailed to The Children’s Room, 1210 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02476.

Spotlight on Deana

Hi! For those who don’t know me, my name is Deana Kennedy-McMorrow. I need your help. I’m taking part in the 126th Boston Marathon to raise money for The Children’s Room, an organization that does great work for a cause that’s very close to my heart.

In 2008 our world was changed forever with a call in the middle of the night. My husband (29) and father to our two children, (ages 11 and 6) was killed with his younger brother (24) in a car accident. Devastated, I was at a loss for what to do for our children. My own father died when I was 11. With no programs to help my sister and I. I was not going to let our children get pushed under the rug. With research I found a program. An organization that understood we needed help. Our kids needed to survive this, to come out of this with some understanding on how to keep going.

Today I can say without a doubt that these programs, camp, and, counseling helped our children in ways I couldn’t. It is my personal goal in life to give back everyday in every way. This April I will be running The Boston Marathon for all the children that have or will lose a loved one.

If you can, please donate to my fundraising project on GivenGain!
Thank you

In memory of Tim O’Brien

Tim ObrienThe Children’s Room (TCR) will be dedicating the 2022 Miles & Memories Boston Marathon to the memory of Tim O’Brien. Tim was a beloved member of our community who came towards The Children’s Room with his three children after the death of his first wife, Keri. Tim was an avid runner. He completed dozens of road races and marathons, but his favorite was always the Boston Marathon which he ran twice in support of The Children’s Room.

Tim married again to Whitney in 2019 and had two young stepchildren. He continued to be a supporter and a wonderful ambassador for our work at TCR. Tim died in November 2021 after running yet another race. His legacy lives on in so many ways, and this is one small way we can honor and pay tribute for all he gave to his community and to The Children’s Room.
