Center-Based & Virtual Grief Support Services

The Children’s Room provides free-of-charge grief support programs for children and teens (ages 3½–18) who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling, as well as their parents and primary caregivers. Services are available in person at our Arlington Center or virtually.

Family-Based Peer Support Groups

  • Families come together to our Arlington Center and are separated into groups: children and teens by grade level, and adults by type of loss
  • Groups meet in person every other week on weeknights or Sunday afternoons
  • Groups run from October through June, with multiple entry points for families to join

Programs for Teens

  • Teens-Only Group: An 8 to 10-week in-person peer support group for teens to attend independently of their family; teens can join in October or March
  • Teen Events: Monthly events featuring different activities that promote connection and community

Programs for Adults

  • Adult Groups: For adults whose children or teens are no longer participating in Family-Based Groups, or adults whose teen is participating in the Teens-Only Group
  • Parenting While Grieving: A six-week virtual program, offered multiple times annually, that provides strategies and tools for parents and caregivers navigating their child or teen’s grief
  • Consultations: One-on-one sessions offering expert guidance to help parents and caregivers understand and support their family’s grief-related needs

Family Night

Family Night is a monthly arts-based gathering on Zoom for children, teens, and their families to come together, create meaningful projects, and remember the person who died. Each family receives a packet of art materials mailed to their home and spends the evening creating, sharing memories, and connecting in a supportive community.
