Fall YIP Graduation: Sudbury students presents a check donation to The Children’s Room
Though experiencing death can be a life-changing event for anyone, adolescence is a crucial development period. And our program staff consistently listens to our community on how we can better serve the individuals that come to The Children’s Room for services. The result was the creation of the Teen Program almost a decade ago. Our teen program is multifaceted, and thanks to our donors’ generous support, we can offer various programs, from teen meetings to teens-only groups to teen family-based peer support groups to teen events. These three donors have been instrumental to the success of this program:
The Rhyme and Reason Fund was one of the inaugural supporters of our teen programs. These individuals have supported The Children’s Room long-term and expressed a specific interest in helping our work with teens. At the time, there was little designated funding for tweens and teens programs; however, there was a need for teens-only group. Their early investment allowed TCR to launch this work, which has now become an essential service for adolescents coming to The Children’s Room for grief support.
The En Ka Society in Winchester has supported TCR since 2013 through its generous grant program. This fall, they made a generous donation to support our teen events. With their grant, The Children’s Room provides dinner at all support groups and hosts numerous teen-only events. Teen events allow our teen participants to connect with other TCR teens, take a break, and enjoy a new, fun activity.

Lastly, Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) – a program of the Foundation of MetroWest – is an experiential leadership development program designed to empower and educate local youth to become our community’s next generation of philanthropists. This year a group from Sudbury selected The Children’s Room to receive a grant. Building connections is an essential part of the YIP program. The YIP teens acknowledge this was also a core component of the teen program at TCR – that every child, teen, and family grieving a death deserves a safe, supportive, supportive, and understanding environment.
