We are excited to announce that The Children’s Room has been selected to participate in the Harvard Business School Association of Boston’s Community Action Partners (CAP) program. Chosen from a competitive pool of over 25 applicants, TCR will receive pro bono consulting—an invaluable opportunity to enhance our organizational strategy and impact.

CAP is a volunteer organization of Harvard Business and Kennedy School alumni, offering nonprofits like TCR expert guidance in addressing their business challenges. Last year, CAP volunteers provided over 13,000 consulting hours, equating to approximately $3.4 million in pro bono services for nonprofits. Their dedication to community service aligns seamlessly with TCR’s mission to support grieving children, teens, and families.

“This partnership comes at a crucial time for us, said our Executive Director Jon Gay. The board and staff feel this is the right moment for a CAP project for several reasons. We are currently in the first year of implementing our strategic vision, part of an emergent learning plan called the Roadmap to Impact. This plan focuses on the growth, replication, and expansion of key programs. The CAP project will center around financial modeling, an essential component of understanding the true cost of our programs. This knowledge will allow us to map our programs to our strategy in a sustainable, impactful way.

“Additionally, we recognize the need to continue evaluating our programs’ impact on future planning. By coupling financial modeling with program evaluation, we aim to build a high-impact portfolio that is both mission-driven and financially stable. The CAP project will not only support the success of our current strategic plan but will also guide the development of our next strategic plan, which will launch after the project’s completion.”

“We are thrilled to partner with The Children’s Room this year, said Executive Director of CAP Kathy Le. Their work is vital to the greater Boston community, and their mission and business challenges make them an ideal fit for our volunteer teams.”

Through this collaboration, TCR will benefit from CAP volunteers’ expertise in strategic planning, financial analysis, and organizational development. This partnership will help strengthen our capacity to provide critical grief support services to families and ensure our continued growth and sustainability.
