“People who volunteer spend about eight fewer hours watching TV” according to a large study by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The study showed that women volunteer at a slightly higher rate than men (29% vs 23%).
Also, surprisingly, women who work and women with children volunteer at higher rates than other women. Wow, the busy people keep themselves even busier!
For the first time, the percentage of volunteers that give more than 100 hours per year reached its highest level in five years with 35% of all volunteers making this impressive commitment.
At The Children’s Room, our average program volunteer devotes about 60 hours per year just to our program, so they are definitely a big contributor in our community. In Massachusetts, 1.4 million people volunteer in their community. Read the full report.
