Running with Heart: Emily Levy Takes on the 2025 Boston Marathon for Grieving Families

Emily Levy has been a runner for years, but Boston has always been the goal. And while some races are about speed and endurance, the Boston Marathon represents resilience, tradition, and the spirit of a city that comes together for something bigger than itself. It’s about giving back.

This April, Emily will run 26.2 miles in support of The Children’s Room, helping to ensure that grieving children, teens, and families continue to have a place to turn to for support. She has seen firsthand how loss can shape a family’s experience and knows the importance of having a compassionate community to lean on during difficult times.

Running with Purpose

Growing up in Needham, she watched the race every year, admiring the runners pushing through Heartbreak Hill and dreaming of one day joining them. Now, she’s not only running for herself—she’s running for every family who has faced grief without a strong support system.

“Training for this race is tough, but it’s nothing compared to what grieving families go through every day,” she said. “Knowing that every step I take is helping someone find support makes all the difference.”

Every Step for Families Facing Grief

As Emily trains for Marathon Monday, she carries with her the stories of those who have experienced loss and the belief that no family should have to navigate grief alone. With each mile, she is honoring the strength of families who have sought support and ensuring that others will have a place to turn when they need it most.

By running for The Children’s Room, Emily is not just crossing the finish line—she is helping to build a community where families can find connection, hope, and support.
