Or at least that’s what happened last October. Vandals knocked loose about a dozen large rocks from our historic stone retaining wall at The Children’s Room headquarters in Arlington. The wall is old and suffers from substantial water damage and patchwork repairs over the years.

Now the wall is going to be returned to its original glory! Thanks to a VERY generous capital donation from The Smith Family Foundation, The Children’s Room is tearing down the whole retaining wall, fixing drainage and restoring the wall to its original (but much improved) form.

Fixing the retaining wall is a crucial piece in our overall transformation of our headquarters. Last year we painted the house Lionheart Yellow and replaced all of the drafty windows with energy efficient windows. Next up is a total re-imagining of the landscape.

All of this work has been done through the generosity of funders and contractors. In addition to the Smith Family, we are thankful to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Sean McDonough Foundation and COG Design. Conneely Contracting and Fagan and Sons Masonry are responsible for the work around the site. Geographia Landscape has created the master plan for the landscaping. We are truly grateful for the community’s support.
