Help the Children’s Room by Becoming a Garden Volunteer

At The Children’s Room, we know that a warm welcome begins the moment families arrive. When children, teens, and caregivers come to us after the death of a parent, sibling, or another important person, one of their very first impressions is the outside of our Arlington home. The gardens, walkways, and greenery set the tone for the care and comfort they will find inside.

In recent years, generous grants and community support have helped transform and these outdoor spaces. Our gardens are more than landscaping—they are part of the calm, supportive environment that greets families as they walk through our doors.

This fall, we’re inviting friends of TCR to join us by becoming garden volunteers:

Garden Volunteer Day & Tour — Thursday, October 9, 10:00am–12:00pm

TCR is hosting a garden morning at our Arlington center to bring together volunteers who can help us prepare the gardens for the seasons ahead.

  • Take a guided tour of the gardens to share our maintenance and planting needs.
  • Work together on light gardening tasks such as weeding and cutting back shrubs.
  • Plant perennial bulbs that will bloom in spring, bringing new life and beauty to welcome families in the months ahead.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply enjoy being outdoors, the garden volunteers will plan to meet monthly beginning in the spring for this meaningful way to support grieving children and families.

Can’t Make October 9?

We’re building a small group of 5–10 volunteers to help with seasonal gardening in spring, summer, and beyond. If you’d like to be part of it, we’d love to hear from you.

To join us on October 9 or to be included in future volunteer opportunities, please email Executive Director Jon Gay at jon@childrensroom.org. Your time and energy will make a direct difference in how families experience The Children’s Room—from the moment they arrive at our door.
