Massachusetts Recognizes Children’s & Teens’ Grief Awareness Month with Proclamation and Citation Honoring The Children’s Room

This November, Massachusetts once again recognizes Children’s and Teens’ Grief Awareness Month, reaffirming the Commonwealth’s commitment to supporting grieving children, teens, and families.

Governor Maura Healey has issued an official proclamation designating November as Children’s and Teens’ Grief Awareness Month and November 20, 2025, as Children’s and Teens’ Grief Awareness Day in Massachusetts. The proclamation invites residents, schools, and organizations to come together in fostering understanding and compassion for young people navigating grief.

In recognition of The Children’s Room’s longstanding work in the bereavement field, Governor Healey and Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll have also presented a Governor’s Citation honoring the organization for “nearly three decades of unwavering dedication to supporting children, teens, and families who are grieving the death of a parent, sibling, or significant person.”

For nearly 30 years, The Children’s Room has been at the forefront of helping children and families navigate the lifelong impact of grief and loss. Through our grief support groups, community partnerships, and professional education programs, TCR provides spaces where children and teens can share their stories, build coping skills, and find connection with others who understand.

As part of this month’s recognition, TCR is partnering with schools and communities across eastern Massachusetts to raise awareness and promote compassionate, grief-informed environments. These efforts build on TCR’s mission to ensure that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone—and to inspire more communities to join in fostering understanding, empathy, and hope.

TCR’s work continues to reach children and families across 80 Massachusetts communities, expanding access to grief support both at its Arlington center and within schools and community spaces.
