From Impossible to Purpose: Bobby Brown Takes on the Boston Marathon for Grieving Children

Fifteen years ago, Bobby Brown stood on the sidelines of the Boston Marathon, cheering on runners as they pushed through the final stretch. He never imagined that one day, he’d be among them.

What started as a distant dream became a reality when Bobby completed his first marathon. One race turned into another, and now, he’s preparing for his fourth—but this time, it’s about more than just crossing the finish line. This year, Bobby will run the Boston Marathon in support of The Children’s Room, helping ensure that no child has to grieve alone.

Running for Sophia and Every Child Facing Loss

Bobby’s connection to TCR is deeply personal. His cousin’s daughter, Sophia, lost her mother at a young age. Since then, she has been raised by Bobby’s aunt and uncle, who have given her unwavering love and support.

“While our entire family was heartbroken, no one felt the loss more deeply than Sophia,” Bobby shared. “My aunt and uncle have been her constant source of strength, and their commitment to her well-being has been the key to her resilience.”

Watching Sophia navigate life without her mother opened Bobby’s eyes to the importance of having a strong support system. He saw firsthand how guidance and care can shape a child’s ability to continue moving past and alongside their grief.

“Every child who has lost a parent deserves this same chance—a chance to have the support, structure, and guidance they need to thrive in the face of tragedy,” he said. “This is why I’m so passionate about running for The Children’s Room.”

An Unbelievable Journey to Boston

Bobby never imagined he would be a marathon runner, let alone preparing to race in one of the most prestigious events in the world. Growing up in Massachusetts, he always saw the Boston Marathon as something untouchable—a goal for elite athletes.

For years, the idea of running 26.2 miles felt out of reach. Then, he signed up for his first marathon, and everything changed.

“That was a game-changer for me,” he said. “I started to realize that maybe these ‘impossible’ goals were within reach. So, I ran another. And another. Now, I’m staring down my fourth marathon, and I still can’t believe I’m running like I am.”

Running Boston was never part of Bobby’s original plan, but now, he can’t imagine a more meaningful way to take on this milestone.

Every Step for a Child Who Needs Support

For Bobby, this race is about more than personal achievement. It’s about ensuring that no child has to navigate grief alone. Every step he takes will be in honor of Sophia, the children who rely on The Children’s Room, and the families who are rebuilding their lives after loss.

“This race AND raising funds for such an important cause takes it to a whole new level,” Bobby said.
