We are so pleased to announce that Martin Conneely and Maritza Ebling will be running the Boston Marathon in April in support of The Children’s Room. Our two marathon bibs are provided through the generosity of the John Hancock Foundation. John Hancock has sponsored the Boston Marathon for 25 years, and each year provides entry bibs for runners who are raising money and hope for community nonprofits.

Martin Conneely, an Arlington resident, has been a generous supporter of The Children’s Room for years. Surviving cancer inspired Martin to reach out to others in need, and he has organized many charity events, including two very successful golf tournaments. This is not the first marathon that Martin has run for TCR, and we are honored that he is once again dedicating his energy and passion to benefit our children and families.

Maritza Ebling, a junior at Wesleyan University, grew up in Newton. Maritza’s youngest cousin, Sophia, died in her sleep from an unknown cause in 2004. Sophia’s parents and sister attended TCR, and Maritza was inspired by the “powerful, healing presence” that TCR had in the lives of her family. She hopes to ensure that other grieving families can be helped in the same way.

Please join us for our Boston Marathon Kickoff Reception on Wednesday, January 19th, from 7:30 to 9:00, at our house in Arlington. Our special guest, Dr. Victoria Arthur, will be sharing her experience of running the 2010 Boston Marathon (her first marathon!) in support of TCR and in memory of her brother, Peter. Come meet Maritza, Martin and Victoria, and enjoy appetizers, wine and a great evening with friends. Please RSVP to kate@childrensroom.org.

Visit our Marathon Team 2011 page for more information about Martin and Maritza, and their personal stories. We will have links to their personal fundraising pages soon, but in the meantime you can click here to make a donation and begin supporting them right away! Please add a note to let us know that your gift is in support of Maritza or Martin.
