Counselors and educators can never have too many hands-on, how-to techniques and strategies to respond to the needs of grieving children, teens and adults. Join us on Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 10am-2pm and learn new ways to utilize expressive arts therapies that encourage healthy coping strategies and enable youth and adults to not only to survive, but thrive. This workshop will link life crises with a variety of multi-cultural, multi-sensory, and imaginative approaches, and demonstrate healing for children, adolescents, and adults. Author, educator and therapist Virginia Fry* will lead a 4 hour training where participants will:

• Explore creative responses to disease, death & other losses


• Identify root sources of suffering that can be addressed with creative coping strategies


• Experience a variety of activities adaptable to any age or loss


• Create a personal repertoire of expressive techniques for healing


Workshop format includes case studies and creative activities such as drawings, poetry, puppetry, doll-making, clay, music & others that can be used in clinical, educational, health care and home settings.

*Virginia Fry, M.A., is the Director of the Hospice and Palliative Care Council of Vermont, Bereavement Coordinator for Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, and Adjunct Faculty at four Vermont colleges. She is the author of the award-winning book, Part of Me Died Too and the forthcoming book, Will There Still Be Birthdays? In her workshops, Ms. Fry conveys a wealth of practical, concrete knowledge that can be utilized in a variety of settings. With over twenty years of experience working with hospice patients and families, she is considered an expert in the field as well as a dynamic and creative workshop presenter. Ms. Fry trains and consults nationally.
