TCR is honored to have participated in The Survivors Gathering, hosted by the Boston Police Department for those impacted by homicide. TCR provided resources and stood in solidarity with the community, fostering togetherness and hope.
Claire Blackford, Program Coordinator for School and Community-based Services, shared her insights on the importance of this event:
“Having a loved one die due to homicide can be an incredibly complicated and isolating experience. In addition to the typical emotions and tasks associated with grief, those who are survivors of homicide often have to navigate the judicial system, negative assumptions or perceptions about how their person died, and even media attention. An event like The Survivors Gathering becomes a really important space for survivors to remember the life of their person and be in community with others. The event did a wonderful job of holding space for this community and extending it by inviting local organizations that offer support and resources to survivors. The Children’s Room was invited for the second year to be among the organizations hosting a table to share about services and resources available to survivors. With everything these survivors are processing and coping with, having a space where they can not only remember and honor their person who died but learn about resources available to them is such an incredible space to be in.”
As we continue our work with community organizations, our commitment remains unwavering: to create a safe and supportive space so that no one has to grieve alone. Partnerships with school and community organizations like the Boston Police Department amplify the support we offer, allowing us to serve more people. TCR provides direct grief support services at our center, in schools, and through community-based organizations, along with resources and referrals for anyone who has experienced a death loss or knows of someone who might have. By coming together, sharing stories, and offering support, we help individuals navigate grief and find hope.
