TCR and Boston Children’s Hospital Partner to Provide Parenting Support for Families After Child Loss

For families facing unimaginable death loss, hospitals are often the first touchpoint—where grief begins and where support is needed most. At The Children’s Room, we know that grief doesn’t follow a straight path, and finding a community that understands can make all the difference. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Boston Children’s Hospital to bring our Parenting While Grieving program directly to families navigating loss in a medical setting.

This partnership is about more than just expanding services—it’s about meeting families where they are, making sure no one has to grieve alone, and building a stronger, more connected network of care.

A Partnership Rooted in Community

TCR’s Parenting While Grieving program offers a supportive environment tailored for parents and caregivers navigating their own grief while supporting their children. This program provides valuable resources and guidance on essential parenting skills such as listening, setting limits, and communication, all within the context of grief. By focusing on both the adult’s and child’s experiences, the program helps families strengthen their connections and manage the challenges of parenting over time. This comprehensive approach to grief support is why TCR collaborated with Boston Children’s Hospital, aiming to extend these specialized services to families in need. Through this collaboration, the group is co-facilitated by TCR staff and SoYun Kwan, a clinical social worker at BCH, combining TCR’s deep experience in grief support with the hospital’s direct connection to families in need.

For many, a hospital is where grief first takes shape, yet it’s also a place where families might not know where to turn next. By bringing this group to BCH, we’re able to reach families who might not have found TCR otherwise, offering them a supportive community from the very start.

Why Collaboration Matters

At TCR, we’ve seen time and time again how grief support is strongest when it’s built into the places where families already are—schools, hospitals, and communities. This partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital is another step in ensuring that support is not just available but accessible when and where it’s needed most.

Grief can be isolating, but support shouldn’t be. By working together, we’re helping families find connection in the moments they need it most—and that’s something worth building on.
