A Marathon of Firsts: David and Jamie Meredith Take on Boston to Support Families Who Are Grieving
Running Boston is about more than the miles. When David and Jamie Meredith decided to run the 2025 Boston Marathon, it wasn’t because they were lifelong runners or chasing a personal best. In fact, neither of them had ever run a marathon before. But when they learned more about The Children’s Room and its mission to support children, teens, and families who are grieving, they knew this was their moment to step up.
Running for Connection and Community
David and Jamie first learned about TCR through their local community. Having experienced loss in their own family, they understand how important it is to have a safe and supportive space for grieving children and families. When a teammate from their son’s wrestling club died, the reality of grief and loss among young people became even more personal.
“The mission of The Children’s Room inspired us to take action,” Jamie shared. “We wanted to raise awareness for this incredible organization, especially after our son’s teammate tragically passed away.”
David, a longtime nonprofit supporter and executive leader, has always believed in giving back to the communities he and Jamie have called home. Since moving to Lexington, MA, they have sought ways to get more involved locally. The marathon felt like the perfect way to do that—uniting their passion for new challenges with a cause that deeply resonated with them.
“We’ve donated to The Children’s Room in the past, but this year, we wanted to do more,” David said. “The marathon allows us to raise critical funds for this organization while also pushing ourselves to accomplish something new.”
Training for Their First Marathon—Together
Though both David and Jamie are active, neither has ever run a marathon before. Taking on Boston’s legendary 26.2-mile course will be a new challenge, but they’re facing it together, just as they have for over 22 years of marriage.
“We’re always looking for ways to grow and learn together,” Jamie said. “Running the Boston Marathon while supporting The Children’s Room feels like a truly special and meaningful experience.”
Every Step for Families Who Need Support
David and Jamie’s journey to the Boston Marathon finish line is about more than personal accomplishment. With every mile, they are running for families who are grieving, for children who need a place to turn, and for a future where no one has to navigate grief alone.
